As a part of ‘Gandhi Samagra’, Governor Dr. Smt. Mridula Sinha flagged off a Prabhat Pheri in the premises of Goa University at 8.15 a.m. today. The pheri was a part of awareness about ‘Ayushman Bharat and Poshan Abhiyan’, a flagship program of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt of India’s Regional Outreach Bureau. Vice Chancellor of Goa University Prof. Varun Sahani, Registrar Dr. Y.V. Reddy, Press Information Bureau’s West Zone Director Shri. R.N. Mishra and Addl Director General Smt. Melinda Dias were present on the occasion.
The event began by welcoming the Governor by performing ‘Povada’, a Maharashtrian folk song by artistes from Sangli, Maharastra. The Povada was based on ‘importance of Nutrition’. The Governor then administered the ‘Poshan Oath’ to those who were present and released the title song of the ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’.
Students of schools and colleges around the city along with teachers and teaching staff of Goa University participated in the prabhat pheri. The pheri started from Admin block of Goa University covering upto 1.5kms through Varca village and returned to Silver Jubilee Hall.
