GOA HIGH COURT, DIRECTS GPCB TO SETUP MATERIAL RECOVERY FACILITIES BY 27TH FEB

The division bench of the Bombay high court in Goa has directed the Goa Pollution Control Board ( GPCB) to dispose of the pending applications received from the various Village Panchayats in relation to the setting up the Material Recovery Facilities, as expeditiously as possible and in any case, by 27.02.2019.

The division bench in as suo moot petition, also said that all the Village Panchayats who have not already undertaken exercise, to identify the locations for setting up the Material Recovery Facilities and thereafter, to apply to the GSPCB for clearance/approval. This exercise should be completed by 10.02.2019. Status report in this regard should be furnished to the Directorate of Panchayats latest by 15.02.2019.

The court has also directed the State Government to provide an up to date report on the Common Waste Treatment Facilities, proposed for treatment of common waste and to also inform whether, the setting up of plastic disposal plant is under consideration and comment upon the issue relating to transport of common waste. This may be done by 23.01.2019.
