With an apprehension in mind that Mauli Temple at poroscodem in Pernem taluka would be demolished by the Highway building government contractors, Pernem Residents have warned the state administration that it would stage an state wide protest if the temple was demolished during the enforcement of model code of conduct for 2019 Lok Sabha and Assembly bye polls.
Addressing media persons in Panjim on Wednesday, a member of the Goencho Avaaz forum Swapnesh Sherlekar said that the principal chief engineer of the PWD Dept has informed us that ” Alternative proposal” sent by the PWD to center has not been considered as the cost of the project would increase”.
He further said that “We would not permit the PWD to carry out the work untill the issue pertaining the temple is not resolved”.
If the temple is touched during the imposition of model code of conduct, we will stage state wide protest, Sherlekar warned the government.
Youth activist, Manoj Parab said that religious sentiments of villages will be hurt if the temple is demolished or relocated without taking locals and devotees of the Temple .
Jitendra Goankar, Pernem Resident Slammed union Minister Shripad Naik and Goa tourism minister Babu Azgaonkar over the issue.
