Panjim congress MLA Babush Monserrate on Monday accused that the Panjim traffic police and transport officials were involved in collecting “protection money” from taxi operators working for casino industry and creating traffic chaos in the state capital.
Responding to local taxi operators woes, Monserrate said that he would permit only 70 local taxi operators to occupy parking space in the city. He said that, all 70 taxi operators – in a group of 5 would be placed at different places so that their business is not affected.
On Monday, Several Goan Taxi operators urged Monserrate to intervene into Goamiles issue.
Monserrate, told local taxi operators to unanimously support Deputy Speaker Michel Lobo – so that issue of app based taxi operations could resolved as soon as possible.
Last month, the state govt had extended its support for operations of app base taxi aggregator services. Traditional taxi operators had however opposed taxi app services – alleging that aggregator services employed non goans.
