The Goa Dy. Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavalekar on Tuesday informed media persons that the agriculture department had only about Rs. 1 crore financial provision to provide relief to flood victims in the state. Kavalekar , said that he would seek assistance from the Goa Chief minister for flood victims. Agriculture dept has estimated around Rs. 8.92 crore cultivation losses after its detailed assessments.
Addressing media persons in Porvorim, agriculture minister Kavalekar said that as per the government survey around 6,336 farmers were affected due to recent flood like situation across the state. He said that 4763 farmers were affected in North Goa, while 1589 farmers are affected in South Goa.
Kavalekar , said that due to constrain in funds with the agriculture dept, it has decided to disburse capital to affected people in an phase wise manner. He maintained that, the several affected farmers had not applied for finical aid from the govt.
Responding to media persons questions, Kavalekar said that it would not be possible for the state govt to provide 100% relief to flood victims before Ganesh chaturthi celebrations.
