The Indian Olympic Association, after reviewing the state governments process of hosting the 36th Indian National Games in Goa, on Tuesday said that it was satisfied with the state governments progress for hosting national games in October 2020.
IOA Chairman, Mukesh Kumar, Goa Chief minister Pramod Sawant & Sports Minister Manohar Azgaonkar held a review meeting with several bureaucrats at Porvorim on Tuesday .
Kumar said that the launch event for the national games will be held in January 2020. During the launch event, the brand ambassadors for the National Games will release the Logo of the event. He said that GTDC will procure sports equipments by March 2020, there after trial games will organised at the venues.
Sports Minister Manohar Azgaonkar said that 35 games will be held at 24 venues in 6 clusters across Goa from 20th October to 4th November 2020. He said that the state government had sought additional Rs. 70 crore from the union govt for building infra for the games. Azgaonkar said that by December 2019, infrastructure for hosting all games will be ready. He however maintained that Cycling and shooting will be held in Delhi.
Azgaonkar further said that the state govt will Invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of India, Ramnath Kovind for inaugural and closing ceremony of the national games.
Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant informed media that the state government had sought 50% National Games Organising funds from the union. He said that estimate for hosting the national games in Goa was Rs. 250 Crore. Sawant maintained that 12,000 athletes and 8,000 volunteers would participate for the event.
