The state government will be able to promulgate its policy on shifting casinos from river Mandovi only after the construction of Mopa airport starts, Goa Ports Minister Michael Lobo told media persons in Panjim on Wednesday.
Lobo told the reporters, that the Goa Chief minister Pramod Sawant was of opinion that the government’s policy on casino could be released only after knowing construction and commissioning deadlines for GMR Goa International Airport .
He asserted media that the casino vessels would remain moored in river Mandovi until casino policy comes out. Lobo however said that the govt would define a sunset clause for casino operators to shift into the gaming zone once the casino policy is notified by the govt.
Earlier in January this year, the Supreme Court had ordered the Goa government and GMR to maintain a status quo on the construction of the airport after green activist approached the SC Challenging that 55,000 trees were arbitrarily razed for constructing the airport and Environment Impact Assessment ( EIA ) report.
