The Congress party in Goa on Thursday, announced to commence people’s movement across the state from 1st November, protesting against union environment ministry for granting Environment Clearance ( EC ) to divert water from Madhei water basin in Karnataka.
Addressing media persons in Panjim, Congress president Giresh Chodankar said that it would commence its protests starting from Pernem Taluka on 1st Nov. Subsequently it would petition the Dy. Collectors opposing environment clearance certificates at Valpoi, Bicholim, Mapusa and Panjim on 5th, 6th 8th and 12th November respectively.
The protest from opposition political parties across Goa commenced after the union environment minister Prakash Javadkar earlier this month tweeted, it had given EC for water diversion from River Madhei water basin in Karnataka.
In recent past, Goa has petitioned the Supreme Court of India opposing water diversion from River Madhei water basin to Malaprabha basin.
