Goa legislative assembly on Tuesday ratified Constitutional Amendment Bill for extending reservation to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes in Lok Sabha and State Assemblies by another 10 years and passed GST council Bill.
Leader of Opposition, Digambar Kamat along with 9 MLA’s in opposition attempted to move an adjournment motion at the state assembly. Stating that the assembly session, was summonsed for ratifying specific bills, the Speaker of the legislative assembly, Rajesh Patnekar declined Kamat plea at the august house. Subsequently, a minor ruckus was created by opposition at the assembly.
Addressing media persons after rejecting opposition’s plea, Patnekar said getting adjournment motion was not a solution to the dispute. He said that the issue had to be fought politically and convince centre. He said that MP’s from ruling and opposition should approach union government to resolve the issue.
The state governor Satya Pal Malik addressing assembly said “My Government is conscious about Mhadei, an issue which affects every Goan. Mhadei water dispute between Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa is about sharing water of interstate river “Mahadayi”. Efforts of my Government is to prevent water diversion outside the river basin. The tribunal which was appointed in November 2010 gave its award on 14/08/2018.” He further said that “Goa requested for a clarification from the tribunal U/S 5(3) of the ISWD Act, 1956. Goa has also filed a SLP in Supreme Court praying for review of the tribunal award besides filing a necessary contempt proceedings before the Hon. Supreme Court.”
Leader of opposition, Digambar Kamat said that opposition will meet our parliamentarians and call upon Prime Minister Modi.
