GOA SAND MINING ROW: NGO FILES CONTEMPT PLEA TO IMPLEMENT BAN. HEARING ON 10TH JAN

Goa River Sand Protection Network through Goa Foundation on wednesday filed a contempt petition under artical 215 of Indian constitution over implementation of ban on extraction of sand and graval mining. The Bombay High court at Goa will hear the petation on 10th January. Eariler on 18th December the high court at Goa had imposed ban on sand and graval extraction in the state.

The Goa Foundation in its contempt plea has stated that the nodal district officers do not attend phone complaints pertaning to illegal mining. It has also urged the court, to direct the police department to deploy dedicated officals at sand mining sites.

The petitioner has urged that illegally extracted sand should be sized and boats & trucks used for transporation should be impounded. Police to accompany COP personnel for registration of FIRS, arrests, etc.
