A sub adult male leopard was found trapped in snare in private property at Bombade Sattari on Saturday morning by locals. The information was shared with Range Forest Officer Valpoi Sh Deepak Tandel who along with Special Protection Squad of North Goa Forest Division reached the spot and cordoned the area at once. The Veterinary officer and tranquilizing team of Bondla Zoo also reached the spot with rescue equipments.

The leopard was successfully rescued after an hour long operation and later shifted to Bondla Zoo for medical investigations.

The leopard had got trapped in clutch wire snare trap set up by unknown criminals to trap wild animals such as Wildboar. Briefing the media on the spot Sh Kuldeep Sharma, Deputy Conservator of Forests North Goa informed that setting up of snare and hunting wild animals is a criminal offence under Wildlife Protection Act and people should respect law and should not indulge in such unlawful activities. He further informed that the rescued leopard shall be kept under observation for few days and once found fit for release, it shall be released back in wild.

The rescue operation was led by Sh Deepak Tandel RFO Valpoi and his team members included Sh Mahadev Gaonkar RF, Smt Lata Parwar RF, Sh Manoj Gawas,FG, Sh Narayan Naik RF, Sh Satyawan Gawas,FG, Sh Sahadev Gaonkar FG, Sh Mangesh Gauthankar, Smt Urvashi Kharwat FG
and Dr Loveleen Vaz Veterinarian Bondla, Sh Pravish Asstt Vet Bondla, Sh Arjun Gawas FG Bondla and others.
