Even after 73 years of India’s independence, several Goan natives, who do not have proper property document’s continue to live in dark sans electricity for decades. Local Panchayats resist to provide permissions in rural parts of the state for domestic electricity connection.
A family in Goa Power Minister Nilesh Cabral’s constituency has been deprived with electricity for past 20 years, as they do not have proper land documents.
Rashida Azgaonkar, a resident from Shelvona village in Curchorem constituency, narrating her electricity woes, said that she had been living in a tenanted house for past 20 years without electricity connection. She said that, Sarpanch had declined to provide administrative documents to procure electricity connection as she did not posses proper title of land where her house was constructed.
Azgaonkar, said that her 3 children had procured graduation studying in kerosene wick lamp while the nation was campaigning for digital India movement. She also maintained that the approach road to her house, were engulfed with wild bushes making it risky for her family member commuting out after dawn.
