The Goa Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the union shipping minister Mansukh Mandaviya had assured that Coal handling in the state would be reduced to 4 million tons annually , after resumption of mining ore export. He said that the government had decided to drop 4 MPT ( Mormugao Port Trust ) port modernization plans, due to opposition to the projects.
Addressing media persons in Panjim, Dr. Sawant said that maximum coal handling amounting to 14 MT was carried in 2017, during total mining closure phase in Goa. He maintained that the state government will be capping coal handling activities in MPT at 14 MT annually.
Dr. Sawant further said that “Mother vessels currently exporting Goan pharma products from JNPT – Navi Mumbai, would soon be able to send their products overseas from MPT port.
