In an bid to open corridors for large scale liquor manufacturers to distillate cashew feni in Goa, the state excise department is contemplating to amend feni distillation rule’s , leader of opposition Digambar Kamat told media persons on Monday.
Kamat appealed the BJP led state government to review the policy of amending excise legislation to protect traditional occupant businesses. He said that “amending feni distillation rule’s will adversely affect and destroy traditional feni producers in the state”.
He further said “Feni has a tradition of production process & needs to be preserved with auctioning of Cashew Groves & setting up of Pot Stills which is unique. Government of Goa must refrain from changing Excise Laws to facilitate entry of Liquor Barons and commercialisation of Heritage Drink of Goa. The traditional Art of Making Feni must be preserved at any cost.”
