The Goa chief minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Friday announced to scrap the state governments proposal of setting up permanent infrastructure for Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT ) – Goa in Melaulim village.
The announcement from the chief minister comes, after Goa health minister Vishwajeet Rane along with his supported Zilla Panchayat members and allied local representative on Friday petitioned the government to drop the proposal of setting up IIT-Goa complex in Sattari.
Addressing media persons in Panjim on Friday, Goa CM Dr. Sawant said that it had decided to scrap the project from Sattari honoring villagers opposition to the project. He said that the government will shortly identify new site for setting up IIT campus in Goa. Dr. Sawant maintained that the government will withdraw all cases filed against villagers in due course of time following all legal aspects.
The Pramod Sawant, led BJP Government faced extensive state wide outrage due to Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane’s arrogance of going ahead setting up IIT project in Melauli orchid land owned by state government despite opposition from villagers razing trees.
Rane’s back foot from IIT Melauli project comes only after villagers across his Valpoi started escalating Vishwajeet Mukt Sattari revolution.
