GOA MUNICIPAL ELECTION: CAMPAIGN CONCLUDES, SECTION 144 IMPOSED ACROSS ALL POLLING CONSTITUENCIES || GOVT NOTIFIES DRY DAY ON 19TH, 20TH & 22ND MARCH

According to public note issued by Pranab G. Bhat, Under Secretary, Finance (R&C) “ In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (4) of Rule 99 of the Goa Excise Duty Rules, 1964, the Government of Goa, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest, hereby directs that all licensed premises “for the sale of liquor” located within the jurisdiction of six Municipal Councils viz. Bicholim, Valpoi, Pernem, Cuncoliem, Curchorem-Cacora, Canacona and Corporation of the City of Panaji and Bye-elections to eighteen wards of different Village Panchayats in different Talukas as specified in the below mentioned table, Bye-election to Zilla Panchayat, 16-Navelim Constituency, South Goa District and Bye-election to Ward No. IX of Sanquelim Municipal Council located in the State of Goa shall be closed from 00.00 hrs. of 19-03-2021 till midnight of 20-03-2021 and on the day of Counting of Votes i.e. on 22-03-2021 from 00.00 hrs. till midnight of 22-03-2021 where the counting is taking place”.

Bhat  further said “The licensed premises having licence for “Bar and Restaurant” may be allowed to keep the restaurant open for serving food only. However, the Bar counter shall be closed and no liquor shall be allowed to serve on the said days. The owners of the licensed premises having “Bar & Restaurant” shall also display a board in the premises that no liquor will be served and that the restaurant will be open for serving food only”.

Meanwhile, North Goa District Magistrate Ajit Roy has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1973.
