According to Premraj Shirodkar, Under Secretary, Finance “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (4) of Rule 99 of the Goa Excise Duty Rules, 1964, the Government of Goa, being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest, hereby directs that all licensed premises “for the sale of liquor” located within the jurisdiction of 05 Municipal Councils viz. Mapusa, Margao, Mormugao, Sanguem & Quepem and Bye-Elections to Ward No. II of Village Panchayat, Karapur-Sarvan in Bicholim Taluka and Ward No. IV of Village Panchayat, Velim in Salcete Taluka shall be closed from 00.00 hrs. on 22-04-2021 till midnight of 23-04-2021 i.e. on Polling day and on date of counting of votes on 26-4-2021 from 00.00 hrs. to midnight of 26-4-2021 within jurisdiction of local body where counting is taking place.
However, the licensed premises having license for “Bar and Restaurant” may be allowed to keep the restaurant open for serving food only and the Bar counter shall be closed and no liquor shall be allowed to served on the above mentioned days. The owners of the license premises having “Bar & Restaurant” shall also display a board in the premises, stating that no liquor will be served and that the restaurant will be open for serving food only.
