11 DIED DUE TO BLACK FUNGUS IN GOA || BIO-MEDICAL WASTE INCINERATORS OVERWHELMED AT GMC

The state government-run Goa Medical College & Hospital ( GMC ) , has reported a total of 25 Black Fungus cases since its outbreak, said Dean of Goa Medical College Shivanand Bandekar.  He said that the GMC had 14 active Black Fungus cases while it had reserved Ward Number 102 for black fungus related infections .

“GMC has reported 11 died due to severe COVID 19 associated with Black function related infections”, said  Bandekar

Speaking to media persons, he further maintained that its incinerator were over burdened to handle the Bio-Medical waste generated in the state. Bandekar, said that its incinerator’s could handle around 1 to 1.5 tons of waste per day, while around 2.5 tons of waste was generated at the handling site. He said that due to accumulation of the waste mishandling incidents could arise.
